Adapting your mindset. The power of self-motivation.

Jul 29, 2016 | Success Advice

As a business consultant in Greece, I know the first thing what you’re going to have to do after improvising to your situation is basically adapt.

Now there’s different things you need to adapt, different areas of your life you have to change in order to become successful. It all starts with your mindset. Your mind. This is about psychology. It’s you, how you perceive things, how you move, it’s the most important thing. It’s where you start the new you, the successful you.

If you do not motivate yourself, if you do not want to become successful, if you do not become obsessed in achieving your goals, you will not make it.

The reason is that you have to love this more, and want it more than to do other things you love.

You have to give up and sacrifice certain things you would “like” to do in order to become who you would “love” to become.

Let me put it this way: There are two main types of mindsets you can follow. An epicurean mindset and a stoic mindset.

People with a stoic mindset, they give up what they want to do now in order to do what they want to do later on in life. They sacrifice now in order to achieve goals and a better life for themselves later on in life. They are the go-getter’s, the scientists, the philosophers, the people who want to become something.

People with an epicurean mindset. They are more live for now, you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, you might die tomorrow, Y.O.L.O. You only live once (If I hear someone say that one more time I’m going to prove it to them.) In general, they’re more live for now don’t worry about tomorrow.

Both of these are correct. You can be stoic or epicurean, the thing is how you choose to become what you choose to become. I’m not saying don’t live for now, but people are getting bombarded by this YOLO craze that stops them moving forward. Its become a fashion, a trend and people don’t realize its making them live paycheck by paycheck and they are acquiring nothing. No knowledge, no financial freedom, no safety.

As I said before, you have to be self-motivated, because if you’re hanging out with people and they all want to go for coffee and drinks, they want to go dance, you’re going to have to sit there and study, research and work your projects.

When people are going for coffee, you have to be PR’ing for example or working your project at home, they will not understand this. I explain this in depth in my book.

Because your circle of influence is extremely important, basically you need to be able to give up certain things in your life in order to achieve what you want to achieve, and you have to be motivated to do this otherwise you will give up, especially if your friends or circle of influence do not share your same visions or goals.

Motivation is what gets you started, but habit keeps you moving. And it is a habit. Your character is a habit. If you think about it, if you get up every single morning and smile, just smile, for months and months, it will become a habit. It will change your life, and most people won’t do it. Some know this, some say they know it, but they won’t do this. And the reason they won’t is because they’re not motivated enough to get into the habit of doing this.

Basically when you get up in the morning, the first thing you have to do is think, ‘what am I going to do to succeed in my goals today? ‘ I talk about goal setting in my book, but basically you have to have a main goal as well as other goals.

You have to have your goal and you have to be motivated and ready to give things up. What are you willing to give in order to achieve what you mostly desire.

After you think about your goal exercise is one of the most important things you can do in the morning. It will make your blood flow, it will make you feel better, it will do things for your confidence, and confidence is one of the key factors in motivation.

It will also shift your mindset as in order to achieve a better healthier body you have to take action. You can’t wish six pack abs!

Make sure you get up, get dressed, wash your teeth, if you work at home, dress up for it. I elaborate about why in my book but I may make another post about this in the near future.

Take a few breaths, work out, stretch, do yoga, pilates, whatever. Read a little bit. Your most effective time of the day is in the morning when you get up, and you have to use this to your advantage.

By the way, reading and knowledge is vital to reach new success height’s. There is no way around it. My mentor Mr. Mario told me the only difference between you and me is that I have the knowledge to make millions. And Albert Einstein said that the only way to reach new heights is acquiring new knowledge otherwise you are stranded where you are – or something like that!

Motivating yourself has a lot to do with what you look like, so going to the gym, working, out, looking good, dressing well, cleaning your teeth, washing your face, taking a shower, eating well in the morning, even though I believe in fasting, it all plays a big important part for you to achieve your goals.

If you just get up and start watching movies or watching cartoons, or whining about another Monday and having to go to work, that attitude will get you nowhere.

I’ll give you an example based on my experience as a business consultant in Greece of how something very small like this can have an impact.

Let’s say two people are working at a fast food restaurant. One person is going to work thinking ‘Shit, I’m going to smell grease all day, another day at work, can’t wait till Friday, can’t wait for the weekend.’ The other is thinking, ‘wow, today I learned how to do the fries, tomorrow I can learn how to fix that recipe.’ One’s thinking ‘damn ice machine’s not working again,’ and the other’s thinking, ‘we have this problem, how can I solve it?’

The difference is one is just waiting for time to go by, waiting for the weekend, so he can have time to just live (YOLO). The other is learning, maybe in the hopes of one day opening up or managing his own restaurant. The difference is he’s motivated to do something more. One does something more, one doesn’t. Not only does time pass by faster and more comfortably in the second situation, but this is a real example and one went on to open his own restaurant. See, he was learning to become something. He wanted to one day open his own business and was learning the ropes. I can’t remember the exact details but I read this example and liked it from Grant Cardone in his book “The 10 X Rule”

Now this may be a simple example, but it’s a true example.

I remember back when I worked in timeshare we used to have to go to work and sell. And I remember Mr Mario would say to us, ‘when you come in to work, you leave all your problems on the coat hanger outside. In here forget everything, your problems, everything. They have no place in here, if you don’t like it, leave with them.

What he did is force us to do was clear our minds of all negativity and keep negativity out of the office. business consultant in Greece hanger

The morning meetings were mostly on success and motivation. How to become rich, how to make money, because you need that motivation, you need to have a goal, one that is rewarding that you can look forward to. Small goals don’t motivate you enough, you have to think big.

So you need to adapt your mind. And you certainly need to be motivated.

You need to get up in the morning and be think positive like “Shit, this is my day, I’m going to take over. It’s a great day, it’s a hot day, wow, people like the heat, like the sun, the vitamin D. They will probably buy my product.” Or “Oh, it’s raining, awesome, I’m not going to get hot, I’m going to be cool, I’m gonna get that wet look.” As opposed to, “oh crap, its hot, I’m going to sweat, I wish I was on the beach.” Or “whoa is me, I’m going to get my shoes wet, I will probably drown crossing the street.”

See the positive in everything. Look around you. Hear the birds sing, don’t just see negativity. Self-motivate yourself to become who you’re destined to become. Remember, you do not find success in life, you create success. You do not find yourself, you create yourself. And all you are is a bunch of habits.

One more thing to add here, switch off your TV! You are being bombarded with negative news because it sells doomsday economy scenarios. You are being brainwashed that there is no money to be made because all you hear is crisis, crisis, crisis. TV shows are mostly drama and problems that happen to other people (more negativity because it sells). You are wasting time you could be studying and/or working towards your goals.

If you can become a self-motivated person, which you can, simply by adopting habits, you will be able to be a self-motivated persona and make your own success. Simple as that.

Until next time – keep Succeeding!
